Is Median Compensation in the Crosshairs?

Wednesday, February 17, 2016 | 12:00PM - 1:00PM CST

Once considered a “safe harbor” threshold in establishing physician compensation, median compensation recently has faced heightened regulatory scrutiny. This webinar will provide participants with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the data published in market surveys and how it can be effectively used in compensation plan design. Specific focus will be given to potential pitfalls in utilizing median compensation rates as the foundation for physician compensation plans.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the evolution in the perspectives of regulators regarding what constitutes fair market value physician compensation, including increased scrutiny of arrangements that previously may have passed regulatory muster;
  • Gain a better understanding of what the compensation surveys’ data represents and how it can be used in compensation plan design and fair market value analysis;
  • Identify situations in which median rates may result in compensation that is not consistent with fair market value, including the effects of compensation stacking;
  • Learn about valuation approaches that can mitigate the potential risks of solely relying on a market approach in establishing physician compensation.
