Telehealth is commonly thought of as a tool for acute care, but this perception is not reflective of the current reality. While most hospitals and health systems do have acute care telehealth programs, many of these organizations are leveraging telehealth technology in other service areas. In 2018, nonacute care accounted for the majority of consults for 57 percent of telehealth providers, according to a recent survey conducted by Teladoc Health and Becker's Hospital Review.
