A roadmap to achieving zero surgical smoke

Surgical tools that cauterize or vaporize tissue generate smoke that may contain toxic chemicals not filtered by surgical masks. On average, perioperative nurses report twice as many respiratory issues as compared to the general population, and studies report 93 percent of nurses feel more comfortable with a smoke evacuator in the operating room.
Due to these risks, nine states have already implemented legislation requiring surgical smoke evacuation. Awareness and momentum around this safety initiative are growing, and it's only a matter of time before more states follow suit. Is your facility prepared to protect your staff and patients?
In this webinar, nurse leaders who have championed smoke evacuation at the facility and state level will share their roadmap to guide others on their journey to smoke free.
Key learning points:
- Examine the hazards of surgical smoke
- Review the current legislation, clinical guidelines, and best practices to reduce surgical smoke exposure
- Describe the technology available for surgical smoke evacuation and how hospitals are using it
