Achieving The Quadruple Aim in Cancer Care: Digital Tools That Help Alleviate Provider Burnout While Improving Care Quality & Patient Experiences

Thursday, July 14th, 2022 | 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM CT

While provider burnout has been a pervasive issue in healthcare, the Great Resignation post-pandemic has only underscored the urgency to take action. Healthcare leaders need to address burnout to get ahead of staff turnover and high costs to the organization. It’s estimated that for an organization, the cost of physician burnout can range from $500,000 to more than $1 million per doctor 1. In addition, burnout is associated with higher risks of medical errors, reduced health outcomes, lower patient satisfaction, and higher costs. Burnout thus threatens an organization’s ability to achieve the other 3 pillars of Quadruple Aim.

There are a number of competing demands that contribute to the burden that providers face. These include expectations of physicians to increase wRVU by seeing more patients, suboptimal design of the EHR, shifting patient expectations of the provider-patient relationship. Physicians often have to rush through patient appointments, sacrifice their work-life balance, and spend significant amounts of time during and outside of work on repetitive, administrative tasks that have little to do with patient care.

The right digital tools and effective data management can help streamline clinical care coordination, free up the capacity of overwhelmed staff and improve patient experience and care quality.

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss how digital tools can alleviate both administrative and cognitive burden and improve provider satisfaction
  • Discuss how digital tools can improve the patient experience and patient-provider relationships
  • Discuss how digital tools can improve the quality of care by enabling more efficient multidisciplinary care coordination and more effective care decisions
  • Discuss how digital tools can help achieve cost savings for the organization
