Better serving the workforce: How hospitals + health systems are creating a culture of mental health

Tuesday, August 29th, 2023 | 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM CT

As healthcare workers continue to cope with pandemic-fueled mental health issues, trauma and compassion fatigue, organizations face costly downstream effects like diminished engagement, disability claims and high turnover.

In this live session, you'll learn how to develop a comprehensive mental health strategy that targets these challenges and aligns with the World Health Organization's new workforce guidelines. You'll hear evidence-based recommendations to ensure employee care access, safer work design, effective supervisory practices and targeted workplace training, as well as insights from BJC HealthCare's Christian Hospital (St. Louis), Memorial Medical Center (Ashland, Wisc.) and Ascension (St. Louis).

Key learning points include:

  • How to address mental health stigma in a clinical setting
  • Why it’s important to build on/go beyond traditional employee assistance program offerings
  • How mental health benefits can help address workforce challenges like retention, burnout, violence and compassion fatigue
