Reimbursement for cryoneurolysis with iovera° for OA Knee Pain

Monday, August 22nd, 2022 | 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM CT

iovera° is a novel handheld device that alleviates pain including osteoarthritis (OA) knee pain through a mechanism known as cryoneurolysis, which applies intensely focused cold therapy to a specific nerve to interrupt its ability to transmit a pain signal. Treatment with iovera° provides immediate non-opioid pain relief that can last up to 90 days, and in some cases longer, as the nerve regenerates over time.

Cryoneurolysis with iovera° for OA knee pain is eligible for reimbursement in hospital outpatient departments, ambulatory surgery centers and physician offices. This second installment of a 2-part webinar series reviews the eligible CPT codes, coding and billing associated with treating multiple nerves, and common reimbursement scenarios.

Webinar Learning Points:

  • CPT Codes 64640 and 64624
  • Clinical documentation checklist
  • Coding and billing when treating multiple nerves (with and without ultrasound)
  • Reimbursement scenarios across sites of care
