The small switch improving patient comfort and sample quality
Venipuncture procedures in patients with difficult venous access (DVA) are typically associated with pain, fear and anxiety, making obtaining a quality sample difficult. Choosing a collection device that is appropriate for DVA patients is important. Previously, smaller gauge needles resulted in less pain for the patient, but compromised sample quality. Read to learn how the BD Vacutainer® UltraTouch™ Push Button Blood Collection Set (UT – PBBCS) performed equivalent to or better than the BD Vacutainer® Safety-Lok™ Blood Collection Set (SLBCS) and could enhance patient comfort, without affecting sample quality in pediatric patients with difficult venous access (DVA) when used with soft-draw tubes.
Key Findings:
Key Findings:
- Since the performance of UT- PBBCS was equivalent or even better than SLBCS, it is suggested that the technological advantages of the new 25G UT- PBBCS can be readily and effectively applied to pediatric clinical settings.
- In evaluating venipuncture difficulty for the nurses, the majority of UT-PBBCS venipunctures scored 0 (no difficulty).
