How OhioHealth Grant Medical Center improved OR efficiency

Operating rooms are the financial backbone of hospitals, yet outdated scheduling and poor block utilization can drain resources and increase staff burnout. 

This was the case at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center. In 2022, the hospital was struggling with numerous OR inefficiencies — scheduling practices were cumbersome, surgical block time was poorly managed due to a lack of data, and staffing constraints put pressure on surgical teams. 

After integrating an AI-powered solution designed to maximize OR usage, the hospital has made significant strides, achieving an 11% increase in block utilization and a 7% absolute jump in prime-time utilization.
