Physician burnout has consequences for the whole healthcare industry. The impact is seen in physician turnover and job satisfaction, prevalence of substance use disorder, medical error and overall quality of care. The American Medical Association found in 2017 that almost 44 percent of physicians reported at least one symptom of burnout, in comparison to about 28 percent of the U.S. population.
