How to maximize telehealth success and speed adoption: Overcoming reimbursement and implementation barriers

Thursday, May 16th, 2019 | 12:00pm - 1:00pm CT

Telehealth has been widely recognized as a useful tool in broadening access to healthcare, as well as increasing convenience and lowering the cost of patient visits. Yet adoption of telehealth systems has progressed at a slower pace than expected. Some of the barriers are obvious, such as the cost of the technology, a patchwork of confusing state regulations, and reimbursement issues. But even as some of these problems have been solved, adoption has lagged.

Current research from NTT DATA has examined the friction that patients and other stakeholders experience in healthcare interactions and suggests that part of the lag in telehealth adoption may be due to subtle, and not so subtle, friction in the system. We’ll examine the challenges of implementing telehealth and how changes in processes and approaches might speed adoption. Shift towards virtual care by Providers, is shifting how they deliver clinical services. In this session, we will specifically focus on challenges posed by:

  • Shifting reimbursements models
  • Evolving Regulatory environment

Learning Points:

  • Keeping up with federal regulations
  • Telemedicine guidelines for different Payers
  • Overcoming organizational barriers to adoption of Telemedicine
  • Creating integrated, seamless virtual care program that is scalable for multiple use cases
