New evidence at scale: 4.0x ROI across 59,090 members
Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions remain one of the largest cost drivers for commercial populations, yet many digital health vendors rely primarily on self-reported outcomes to demonstrate value.
This new study takes a different approach. Instead of surveys, it examines what appears in medical claims when members use a digital MSK program rather than the traditional pathway of imaging, specialist visits and surgery.
Across 59,090 commercially insured members, researchers found a 4.0x return on investment, $3,262 in annual savings per member and a 48 percent reduction in surgical utilization. The study used a propensity score matched, difference-in-differences design, with all 62 balance measures meeting accepted thresholds for causal inference.
