Break through bottlenecks: How Sharp Memorial is improving ED workflows

Thursday, March 16th, 2023 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CT

For many years, emergency department overcrowding has been a persistent problem adversely affecting patients, hospitals and communities. The COVID-19 pandemic brought renewed attention to the issue and created a sense of urgency to address it. With hospital resources still strained and staff expected to do more with less, developing innovative care models that effectively use technology is key to mitigating ED bottlenecks and optimizing hospital operations.

But what type of technology can actually help? Clinical communication and collaboration (CC&C) platforms enable care teams to communicate in real time and automate workflows that can help reduce ED crowding and wait times, leading to better patient experiences and improved outcomes.

During this session, Jessica Carlson, clinical nursing support manager at San Diego-based Sharp Memorial Hospital, will share what platform has helped the hospital modernize its ED and inpatient workflows.

Key learning points:

  • Demonstrate the value of integrated clinical and IT shared governance in clinical transformation strategies
  • Illustrate workflow analysis and improvement for staff and provider communication with CC&C technology
  • Connect the use of technology with improved patient care outcomes and provider satisfaction
