Solving the HAI Equation; Don’t be Obtuse, Check all the Angles

Thursday, September 15, 2016 | 1:30-2:30 CDT

This session will address the complexity of HAI acquisition, and the multiple areas that need to be addressed to reduce patient risk.  Jim will illustrate how an algebraic equation can be used to ensure that the recognition of the sum of the parts that can contribute to an HAI can lead to even greater reductions in risk.  He will challenge your current thinking and hopefully encourage you to take a look at your current practices to determine if your formulas for success are robust enough to address the issues.  Jim’s presentation will address how healthcare practices, products, and compliance can effectively and efficiently reduce transmission rates, including major areas such as hand hygiene, antibiotic stewardship, clinical practices, fecal waste management and environmental disinfection.

At the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the multiple factors that can impact HAI risk
  • Evaluate if current practices are robust enough to address the risk of HAI transmission
  • Understand basic and multi-modal practices, to address the risk in the healthcare environment
  • Create solutions to improve compliance and reduce risk
