The payer, the provider and the pandemic — C-suite insights on healthcare's paradigm shift

Collaboration between payers and providers has been essential to healthcare's pandemic response. Payers have enhanced reimbursement for virtual care services to help providers deliver the care patients need remotely. The widespread adoption of virtual care technologies and the commitment of payers and providers to collaborate signifies a paradigm shift in the industry. This shift will have broad implications for payers, providers and patients.

To discuss the industry's pandemic response and healthcare's future, Becker's Hospital Review and Optum convened a group of health plan and hospital leaders for an advisory call in December 2020. C-suite executives from 10 provider and payer organizations were represented on the call including:

  • MetroPlus Health Plan in New York City
  • Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City
  • Cancer Treatment Centers of America
